about

The Morning Greys was recorded in Louisville, KY over the course of the winter of 2010. It is an album about moving on. It is about the pain of loss, the excitement of new love, and the uncertainty of an unwritten life.

Track Name: California 2
i know it's time,
oh, i know it's time to get going
but if you would stay
i'd live in this hallway
for the rest of my days

whisper your name,
loud from your fragile frame
and a chance of hope
and i'll whisper the rest
with your head on my chest
some six months down the road

oh...

rhetorical lines
that replay in my mind
make for good company
and though i've never been
one for casual sin,
i'm up for anything

i know it's time,
oh, i know it's time to get praying
oh, i'll send out my heart,
risk it breaking apart
just to hear you saying,

oh...
Track Name: How the Story Ends
don't forget to look left
at all the farmlands
and a hundred million people burrowing
with a shovel made of hands

once upon a time
before a life begins
is how the story ends

dip a toe into the water
and feel the life beneath
space enough to make a bed there
but then i couldn't breathe

once upon a time
before a life begins
is how the story ends

i saw you in the passenger seat
across a great divide
though each cell betrays the next one
we won't see the other side

once upon a time
before a life begins
is how the story ends
Track Name: All it Takes
love won't keep me away
and i know why

a kiss,
a kiss is all it takes,
all it takes
a lie,
a lie to captivate,
to captivate the weak

your hate won't keep me away
cause i don't buy it

a kiss,
a kiss is all it takes,
all it takes
a lie,
a lie to captivate,
to captivate the weak

I know,
everything you say you believe
and i know
all that you believe
it pulls your heart from me

love won't keep me away
and i know why
Track Name: Hamelin
silent hands ask me how i do it
a sideways glance can't be misconstrued

while the kids all sleep in bed
all the rats will raise their heads
and they'll raise their heads to hear

a motley garb to catch a curious eye
a clef begins the music of a sigh
as i breathe into a fife

while the kids all sleep in bed
all the rats will raise their heads
and they'll raise their heads to hear

i can cure the plague that hides within your city walls
drive out everything you loathe before the evening falls
i know i can be the one you hate
or the one you hate to see go

while the family sleeps in bed,
all your kids will raise their heads
and they'll raise their heads to hear
a gentle sound that's drawing near
while the family sleeps tonight
all the kids march out of sight
and you'll raise your heads to hear

OOOOoooooOOOooOOOooH
Track Name: The Morning Greys
i wish...
i wish that i could find you
and you, you just smile
and say, "you never lost me"

and i know your name
and i know your face
it's the first thing i see in the morning greys

i'm running out of reasons
to get out of bed
with all this sh*t in my head

so i wrap myself in blankets
to keep out the cold
all this living makes me feel old.

and i know your name
and i know your face
it's the first thing i see in the morning greys
Track Name: Inverness
the tracks are unfurled rolls of film
as frame by frame the landscape's story weaves and spins
the heart of stone peeking out of the highland grass
you and i shall part on the streets of inverness

as my hand grasps at the view,
i'm letting go of you

it seems the sky is crying too
today could not compare to the night you put me through
now my world is clean, God washed away the mess
i forgave you on the streets of inverness

as my hand grasps at the view,
i'm letting go of you
